What is a Information Security apprentice?

This Apprenticeship framework provides the skills and knowledge to become a professional in the field of Information Security, which includes Cyber Security. It provides the knowledge and skills required to progress in a wide range of  roles.


What is the work like?

This Apprenticeship will help you to understand what cyber security is. It provides the knowledge and skills required to progress in a wide range of  roles.

This can include:

• junior (Level 3) ProMon/network (security) engineer
• junior (Level 3) IA & cyber research scientist/engineer (e.g. vulnerability testing)
• junior (Level 3) security engineer (e.g. software development)
• junior (Level 3) network security officer
• junior (Level 3) governance officer (IA consultant)
• junior (Level 3) ProMon/network (security) engineer

Key Facts

  • One year Level 3 Apprenticeship
  • You will achieve the Level 3 City and Guilds Diploma in Information Security
  • You will have the option to attend day release workshops to enhance your knowledge and skills
  • You will receive teaching, learning and assessment through:
  • your place of work

    through distance learning

    online learning

What skills are required to gain this apprenticeship?

To be an Information Security Apprentice you will need to demonstrate:

  • Good IT skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • An understanding of customer service
  • A good work ethic with a determination to succeed
  • Ability to work within a team or covering your own caseload of work

What qualifications are required to gain this apprenticeship?

You will need to have gained A-C grades in G.C.S.E English and Maths or if you do not have these grades you will need to work towards your Functional Skills, English and Maths at level two.
